Voodoo Fest 2016

Two weekends ago, I went with my friends to VoodooFestival in New Orleans. If you haven’t ever been to a festival there, put it on your bucket list. The city is the best place to be if you want to have a good time, and festivals like Voodoo and Buku never fail to impress with their lineups (plus, tickets and hotels really aren’t too pricey). This year was even more special because the festival fell on Halloween weekend. I really couldn’t have thought of a better place to spend my favorite holiday, and I was not let down at all. I figured I’d share who I saw, what I wore, and how it was each day.

THE LINEUP

  •  DAY 1
    • Tory Lanez (briefly)
    • What So Not*
    • Porter Robinson
    • Rae Sremmurd*
    • The Weeknd*
      •

    • Some people I missed but would have liked to see:
      • Sonny Alven
      • Lunice
      • LÉON
      • Mutemath
      • Mayer Hawthorne
      • Slander
  • THE SCENE
    • The majority of people were decked out in costumes for Halloween. I saw a lot of aliens, animals and Harley Quinn’s. I was the Snapchat Dog Filter and wore:
    • We got there a little bit late, so we didn’t get to see as many people as we would have liked, but everyone we did see was amazing. Rae Sremmurd was so much fun to see because they have so many party hits. I was also really happy that The Weeknd played a lot of his hits from his trilogy and didn’t only focus on his radio songs or try to promote a bunch of new songs no one knows yet.

DAY 2

  • THE LINEUP
    • Snakehips*
    • DJ Mustard
    • Alison Wonderland
    • Rebelution*
    • Die Antwoord (briefly)
    • Some people I missed but would have liked to see:
      • Saint Motel
      • LÉON
      • G-Eazy
      • Cage the Elephant
      • Shakey Graves
      • Oh Wonder*
        • SO BUMMED I MISSED THEM
  • THE SCENE
    • Day of the Dead skeleton:
    • We stayed at the same stage for three consecutive sets because the music was so good. My friends and I were having a lot of fun, and the people around us were having just as good of a time. At the end of the night, we were able to sit and relax to Rebelution, which was the perfect way to end a day of jamming out to trap.

DAY 3

  • THE LINEUP
    • Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals*
    • Party Favor*
    • Snails
    • Band of Horses
    • Gramatik
    • The Chainsmokers
    • Arcade Fire
    • Some people I missed but would have liked to see:
      • Lookas
      • Bob Moses
      • Beats Antique
      • STS9
  • THE SCENE
    • Harambe:
    • Sunday was a more relaxing day. We were all pretty tired, and luckily got to sit and relax for a few bands. Anderson.Paak was really good at interacting with the crowd, and his band sounds amazing live—I didn’t expect him to be such a rocker. We ended the night at Arcade Fire, which had a pretty small crowd since the majority of people went to Chainsmokers. They didn’t play many of their songs that I knew, but their music is good enough that you don’t need to know words.

Voodoo was a complete success. I will definitely try to go back in future years.
