Process — Sampha

At the beginning of February, British musician Sampha released his debut album, Process. Most people would probably recognize Sampha’s voice from his features on Drake’s “The Motion” and “Too Much,” or from SBTRKT’s “Hold On” and “Never Never.” His talent has also been noticed by a number of other great artists like Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Solange. Needless to say, this guy’s got talent.

Process will probably go down as one of my favorite albums of all time. I’ve listened to it at least three times a week for the last month and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I love the way his raw, soulful vocals contrast against the trancelike, electronic instrumentals. He creates something that is both real and surreal at the same time. My only wish is that I was listening to it on vinyl. Also be sure to check out his NPR special, “Tiny Desk Concert.”

Winter Setlist

Since graduating college in December, I’ve been busy traveling, moving and trying to find a job. I didn’t have a ton of time to dedicate to finding new music this winter, but still would love to share some of my favorite finds over the last three months:

2017 Spring Festival Guide

My favorite part about the new year is that it’s like an instant refresh on all of the festivals. I wish it was my job to attend them all, but even though I can’t, I still love looking at all of the different lineups and seeing what artists are playing everywhere.

Next weekend kicks off my first festival for the year at Air + Style, but so far that’s all I’ve got planned. I spend so much time looking at lineups that I thought I’d make it easier on some of my friends and put together a comprehensive, chronological list of all the lineups I’m stoked on this Spring. I’ve got all the prices and locations listed for you, plus some of the acts I would want to see at each one. This only covers from now until April, so I will definitely be posting a summer lineup guide once more of them are out.

Artist to Watch: ye.

One of my favorite Soundcloud discoveries this year is ye. (pronounced “yeah”). I first found his song “iwantuu” over summer and smashhheddd that download link. The drop is similar to Sam Gellaitry’s “Long Distance,” but it goes way harder. It uploaded to iTunes with no artist listed, so I had no idea who the genius behind the beat was until I came across another one of his songs a little later. I checked out his profile and was completely sold—homie has some epic sounds. Check out some of my favorites below, but definitely go check out ye.’s Soundcloud and show him some love.
